What’s your plan for the summer? If you’re a college student looking for a way to boost your resume, leadership skills and network in the Detroit Jewish community — and get paid in the process — the JOIN program from Gesher Human Services wants you.
An acronym for the Jeannette and Oscar Cook Jewish Occupational Intern Program, JOIN started back in 1973 and is open to Jewish metro Detroit residents who are full-time undergraduate or graduate students considering a career in the nonprofit world, particularly within the Jewish community. It’s also for those intending to work in the for-profit space but want to learn more about our Jewish community for future lay leadership or volunteer work.
“This program is invaluable for aspiring community leaders, providing a chance to gain experience in so many different branches of the Jewish nonprofit world in metro Detroit,” said JOIN Coordinator and Business Relations Specialist Ashley Stone.
Approximately 400 students have already benefited from the JOIN program, and many have gone on to have careers in professions such as rabbis, educators, and communal leaders.
Internship work is offered in several fields including nonprofit business administration, marketing and communications, human services, program planning, human resources, community outreach and advocacy and development/fundraising.
Openings for JOIN are limited. Applications and initial interviews must be completed by March 1, 2024. Find more information here or contact Ashley Stone at astone@geshermi.org or 248.233.4482. You can apply now here.
