History Helpline February 2023

History Help Line is brought to you by the Center for Michigan Jewish Heritage, a collaboration between the Rabbi Leo M. Franklin Archives of Temple Beth El and the Leonard N. Simons Jewish Community Archives of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

It’s time for another History Help Line! In this edition, we’re excited to introduce a new collection, the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization Records. Thanks to the help from our fall intern, Elizabeth Norton, this collection has been processed, arranged and cataloged on our website for public access. You can see the finding aid and catalog record on our PastPerfect site here.

We have lots of great photos from this new collection, most of them undated and unidentified. We need your help to identify the people in these photos, where they were taken or when. (And while you’re at it, check out the B’nai B’rith Youth Organization Records, including the BBYO Senior banners from 1993, ’94 and ’97!)

This photo, for example, is from a B’nai B’rith Girls Cupid Ball from 1954. We would love to be able to identify everyone in the photo!

If you want to submit information on any photograph, click on the “Send Us Feedback” button after you open the picture and we’ll update the record. If there is more than one person in the photo, be sure to indicate the person you’re identifying (i.e. 2nd person from left)! Thanks to you and your efforts we can keep our collections accurate and accessible. As always, make sure to check out the rest of our collections. Visit our website and stay in touch with us through Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or TikTok.
