This month, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit gave its annual Fred M. Butzel Award to Larry Wolfe. The Butzel Award is the highest honor Federation bestows upon a member of Detroit’s Jewish community for their leadership, vision and generosity.

Here’s a look back at the Butzel Award from the archives, including past winners and the award namesake himself, one of Detroit’s leading Jewish citizens during the 1920s-1940s.

Learn more about Butzel the man and award in this throwback article from My Jewish Detroit in 2014.
