They are our strength, our inspiration, our moms. In tribute to Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12), we look back (and forward) in celebration of Federation Women.
The year was 1946. Federation’s Women’s Division was born.
World War II was over. Jewish refugees were seeking new lives in America and in Israel. The Jewish nation was yet to be born. And in Detroit, our Jewish agencies confronted extraordinary needs. Forty-one women decided to strengthen their participation in Federation and by forming the Women’s Division.
From strength to strength
From door to door, to dor v’dor (generation to generation), Federation’s Women have supported and served with the determination to help build and provide for a greater Jewish Detroit and to ensure the safety and well being of Jews in Israel and across the world.
