Now what? When COVID-19 forced us to social distance and stay in to stay safe, families wondered if — and how — their teens would be able to earn the community service hours they need for bar or bat mitzvahs, scouting groups, honor societies and more.
Now there’s Service with Purpose. A new program from the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit that offers meaningful and safe opportunities for teens to connect with community agencies to meet their service hour requirements.
According to Amy Brody, Service with Purpose coordinator, “This program is being facilitated by Federation, but will benefit a group of important community agencies that teens will find especially meaningful to connect with — like Federation, Partnership2Gether, Brilliant Detroit, Yad Ezra, Tamarack Camps and Jewish Senior Life.”
How does it work? Teens will sign up for one or more areas that interest them for an 8-week service rotation. After the 8 weeks, they can be done with Service with Purpose, or sign up for the next round.
Interested in participating in Service with Purpose? Registration for the first round (January 17-March 14) ends January 8th. A second round will begin in March with details to be announced.
