Summer Opportunties

Opportunities for College Students and Grads

Snow is falling. Temperatures are dropping. In Michigan, it’s never too early to think about summer: time to travel, explore, discover new fields of interest, pursue a dream career.

Looking for direction? A resumé tune-up? Connections to companies seeking young talent? A Detroit-based Birthright trip to Israel?  The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit is a great place to start.

For students and young adults migrating home to the metro Detroit area, Federation can help open doors: to summer internships, work, travel, play, even work-study programs in Israel.

Ready, set, network via NEXTGen CONNECT!

It’s new: expanding its reach to college students and grads seeking employment in the area, Federation’s NEXTGen CONNECT provides a suite of personal services to guide and assist young job applicants:

    • Produce polished, effective resumes
    • Hone interviewing skills
    • Set career goals
    • Network, connect and find their fit in the business community

“NEXTGen Connect is a new program of NEXTGen Detroit,” explains Amy Brody, Program Coordinator, “Our mission is to connect college students with internships in the field of their interest and to help start up careers for those seeking permanent employment in the metropolitan Detroit area.”

Students who are currently in college and recent graduates are eligible to register for the program. The majority of internships in the current inventory are paid opportunities in a wide range of fields, from business to medicine, marketing to non-profit work. Internships vary in length of time, hours and pay. New internships are posted weekly.

NEXTGen Connect is now actively seeking students who are looking for summer internships, “NEXTGeners” looking for full-time employment as well as local companies and individuals offering internship opportunities.

Israel: The Journey Continues

Come, live like a local.  Here’s your opportunity to spend meaningful time in Israel. Match your interests with a volunteer service, work study or internship program. For Jewish young adults (ages 18-30) there are more than 200 opportunities to work, study and play with peers from all over the world. Choose a short five-week stint or stay a year. No other organization gives you more options and makes it easier to have an exciting life-changing experience in Israel.

“My favorite part of this program has been meeting international students. Living in Michigan, I never had the opportunity to meet anyone from Europe. But my best friends here are from France and Germany, Holland and Russia. One of the hardest things about this experience is leaving once we’ve made this life together.”  -Shayna Hodge, Detroiter, Study Abroad Participant

If you know of any young adult looking to go back to Israel, contact Danielle Longo at 248-203-1467 or longo@JFMD.org. We can help.
