Giving Tuesday 2020

The global day of generosity is Tuesday, December 1.

In a year unlike any other, #GivingTuesday seems uniquely meaningful.

#GivingTuesday, an international day of giving, was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past nine years, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

At a time when we are all experiencing the pandemic, generosity is what brings people of all races, faiths, and political views together across the globe. Generosity gives everyone the power to make a positive change in the lives of others and is a fundamental value anyone can act on.

#GivingTuesday emphasizes opportunities to give back to communities and causes in safe ways that allow for social connection and kindness even while practicing physical distancing.

We all have gifts to give, and with social media, online giving, delivery, mail, and phones, there are limitless ways to use your generosity to support others.

#GivingTuesday and the Jewish Community: Built for This Moment

As in past years, the Jewish Federation is participating in #GivingTuesday. With the goal of raising $250,000 for its 2021 Annual Campaign, Federation hopes to reach at least 500 donors, the most of any single day event outside of Super Sunday. There will once again be matching funds that allow donors to double the impact of their donation.

“Our theme this year is: Federation was Built for this Moment,” says Carolyn Bellinson, 2021 Annual Campaign Co-Chair. “Simply put, we’re responding to meet the vast and growing needs of all who are counting on us during the pandemic. Right now, we’re delivering kosher meals to seniors and other vulnerable individuals. Providing vocational training for job seekers. Offering emergency aid. Providing protective gear. Giving struggling families the cash assistance they need, and helping our Jewish Day Schools. We’re supporting critically impacted institutions that are the heart and soul of Jewish life.”

The funds raised during #GivingTuesday will support Federation’s 2021 Annual Campaign.

“Federation’s Annual Campaign is still the most vital way for individuals to support our overall community,” notes Carolyn. “Every donor and every dollar counts — especially in a year like this one. #GivingTuesday allows us to reach out to our community to ask them to participate. We may need to change how we do things during this pandemic, but why we need to do it remains the same, if not more necessary.”
