Unlike so many other young people, the students at Hillel Day School were fortunate enough to attend classes mostly in person during the past year.

So, what is it like to get up, get dressed and go to school in a real school building during a pandemic? FedRadioDetroit co-host Sam Dubin takes us inside of Hillel to give us a glimpse. He talks to kids, parents, teachers and administrators, all acutely aware that looking out for the best interests of the students is more important — and challenging — then ever.

Back in the virtual studio (everyone recorded remotely due to COVID-19), Sam and co-host Beverly Liss welcome Hillel’s Head of School, Dr. Darin S. Katz, who took pride in, “the dedication of faculty and staff who showed more bravery than they probably knew they had, and the goodwill of parents to believe that we were doing what’s best for their children.”

Listen below to our latest podcast for a look at one of our community’s Jewish educational gems and the people who keep it that way in response to COVID-19.

Mazel tov to this month’s Mitzvah Maker: Rabbi Benyamin Vineburg!

Rabbi Vineburg is Chaplain at the University of Michigan Hospital and at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland. His calling is made even more poignant during these times where he finds himself often asked to bring comfort to patients and families who in many cases cannot even be together in the same room.

You can hear more about Rabbi Vineburg and his dedication to being by a patient’s bedside, COVID-19 and otherwise, in this month’s episode of FedRadioDetroit.
